It is an honor to serve as your Leelanau County Commissioner!
I am a retired educator with 45 years experience at Grand Rapids Public Schools, Northern Illinois University, Grand Valley State University, Rockford Public Schools, East Grand Rapids Public Schools, Northport School, and Traverse Bay Area Intermediate School District. After retiring in 2012, I served as Coordinator of the Leelanau County Family Coordinating Council and was active with the Regional Poverty Reduction Initiative, Continuum of Care, Family Support Team, and a number of regional efforts to serve families and residents.
I am a husband, father and grandfather. My wife Kathy & I have five children and four grandchildren. We have lived in Leelanau County since 2005 and currently value the opportunity to volunteer in a number of community efforts. I am a member of the Northport Lions Club, the Leelanau Rotary Club, the Traverse City Economics Club, and the League of Women Voters – Leelanau. I am also a board member of Leelanau REACH.
In addition to family and community involvements, my hobbies include reading, boating, gardening, bird watching, and enjoying Northwest Michigan’s wonderful natural resources.
As Leelanau County Commissioner for District 4, my priorities include responsible fiscal oversight, service to residents, support for economic development, responsible environmental stewardship, affordable housing, and partnerships with local government, businesses, and non-profits. I currently serve as the Commission’s representative to the Northern Lakes Community Mental Health Board and the Networks Northwest Board. I also serve on the County Commission’s Housing and Senior Services Committees.
I appreciate the opportunity to be your County Commissioner, and I encourage you to hold me accountable. I welcome your calls or communications at any time.
